Captain Responsibilities for Each Match

Visiting Team Captain Prior to Match

1.       At least 3 days prior to your match, email the home team captain with your list of six players including their GHINs.

2.       When the home team captain returns the completed match summary, review it for accuracy.

3.       If you are not playing in the match, designate another team member as the match captain. He is responsible for reviewing, agreeing with and signing the match summary after the match.

Home Team Captain Prior to Match

NOTE: If you delegate any of these tasks to the Pro Shop or someone else, you are responsible for verifying their accuracy so it is strongly suggested that team captains personally complete each of these tasks

1.       2 days prior to your match, complete the Match Summary by inserting the index and playing handicap for players on both teams.

2.       Current indexes can be found on the USGA GHIN app. It is a free app.

3.       Playing handicaps can be calculated at this website: https://ncrdb.usga.org/

a.       Enter the course name.

b.       Down below click on the hyperlink for the golf course

c.       Insert each index into the box and click Calculate Men’s Handicap

d.       The course handicap in the right-hand column for the appropriate tee should be inserted on the Match Summary for each player

4.       Email the completed Match Summary to the visiting team captain 2 days prior to the match.

5.       If you are not playing in the match, appoint a match captain.

6.       On match day, the match captain should bring two copies of the Match Summary and two scorecards for each of the three matches. The cards must show the holes on which players receive strokes and their playing handicaps.

7.       When the match is completed, the captain completes the match summaries, signs them, and gives them to the visiting team captain to review and sign.

8.       Once the summary is agreed to by both captains, the home team captain is responsible for following the instructions on the bottom of the match summary.

·         Keep scorecards for 7 days

Both Captains after Match

Upon completion of the match, remind your players to post their scores to GHIN by midnight.

Recommend players post scores on a hole-by-hole basis as GHIN will automatically adjust scores properly.

Home team players should post scores as a Home round and visiting team players should post scores as an Away round.

Posting Scores for Incomplete Rounds

·         If a match is over before 18 holes and the players decide to play in, record net par for the holes played after completion of the match.  If a player scores better than net par on one or more of those holes, that score should be used for posting.

·         If a match is over before 18 holes and the remaining holes are not played, post scores hole- by-hole in GHIN and do not enter scores for the holes not played. GHIN will make appropriate adjustment to make the score postable.

Pace of Play

Our home golf courses support the league by allowing us to reserve matches well in advance of when the public can reserve tee times. Captains should regularly remind their team to “mind the gap”.  There should never been an open hole ahead of you.  If there is, do everything possible to close the gap. Slow play is not enjoyable for anyone and can create financial difficulties for our courses and ultimately jeopardize our access.
